Just because a region is bleak, desolate and inhospitable doesn't mean it lacks value. The planet Colian is a case in point; it has plentiful stocks of tough metal Aluma, the explosive Detonite, and the energy giving Quaza crystals. The units which are mining them are under the control of the Empire, and are forced to produce destructive Terrorpod units.

The rival Federation attempts to shut this operation down, and sends you to the surface in a Defence Strategy Vehicle. Your task is to find each of the six bases before the Empire can destroy evidence of them. Destroy all the Terrorpods in order to reach the bases.

The action is viewed from your DSV, as you move and shoot at any encroaching Terrorpods. Colian has a heavy inertia field, so you are always moving. You have guided missiles at your disposal, although these use up some of your limited Detonite stocks. Missiles will also be aimed at you; avoid these.

As all this action unfolds, you are trying to ensure that enough components can be produced in the mines, and can be retrieved in order to go towards the Federation's own building efforts. Collect the resultant products to attach them to your DSV.

Trivia

The cover art used for Terrorpods is originally from a series of illustrations for H. G. Wells' War of the Worlds, released in Omni Magazine in 1985. It was created by Roger Dean and Tim White.

Description from the packaging:

It's been a long watch... as the sun disappears over the horizon, the uninviting grey bleakness of Colian becomes apparent. Following the intense heat of the day, the onset of night adds the bitterness of sub-zero temperatures to an already hostile environment, and the stark interior of the D.S.V. appears almost homelike.

Deep melancholy is suddenly smashed by the shrill scream of a siren. The information display systems have gone crazy, an extraordinary array of lights flash uncontrollably. Good grief... what's happening?
You're whole being freezes... It can't be! The Terrorpods...

(Screen 1) One and a half minutes in; you have sustained damage from a direct hit, they are attacking your nearest manufacturing center. You start to prepare for a sustained attack.

(Screen 2) Twenty minutes in; the attack is heating up, a target presents itself, your missile-control screen scrolls into operation, you lock-on target, crash through the launch sequence, then the deafening impact of the missile smashing home.

(Screen 3) After two hours it has become very apparent that your training in fast action combat just isn't enough, you will have to muster all your mental reserves and strategic powers to maintain adequate trading and resource levels.
Are you good enough? Can you survive? The Terrorpods!
